General Meeting November 5, 2013

Call to order: 7:00PM, Chairman, Ed Dziuk, called the meeting to order.

Location: Shaw Butte Elementary School, 12202 N 21st Ave

Attendance: 19 adults including officers, Ed Dziuk – Chairman, Patty Smith – CoChair, Artie Hauer – Treasurer, Mary Hauer – Secretary, Sargent-at-arms, Linda Townsend

Ed reported that someone was seen going through a neighbor’s mail on Nov. 4, 2013. We discussed the importance of noticing and reporting suspicious activity quickly. Use the Crime Stop number early and often – 602-262-6151. Even if there is nothing wrong, police patrols send the right message to would-be criminals.

Patty Smith, Co-Chair, thanked everyone for of our October 2013 G.A.I.N. Mary Hauer, Secretary, shared video and photos from the G.A.I.N. event held on Corrine Dr. Everyone enjoyed live music by “Herd of Turtles”, an up and coming local band, and, Artie Hauer, our very own neighbor and Treasurer of CMNBW. Neighborhood children had a great time on the activities organized by Eleanor Dziuk. Barro’s, our local pizzeria, came through again with tasty and discounted the pizzas for the event. Charlotte Steele graciously donated and distributed her Dairy Queen ice cream bars.

The next Phoenix Neighborhood Patrol (PNP) training is scheduled for February 1, 2014 ( http://phoenix.gov/webcms/groups/internet/@inter/@dept/@police/documents/web_content/105751.pdf ). All those interested, please contact Patty Smith at (602) 499-3481.

Patty Smith reported on her attending the City Grant Writing Workshop. All interested in the City sponsored workshops are encouraged to consider attending also.

Artie Hauer gave his treasurer’s report. Donations of $480 were collected. Costs included $119 for pizza and $180 for the bouncy inflatable. The G.A.I.N. event netted $150 for the Block Watch general fund. Grant fund disbursements included $199 for a Vimeo account that hosts videos on our website and $57 for printing of fliers. The Grant account balance is $4,263. We anticipate disbursements for liability insurance and alley lights to APS in the next quarter. The General Fund balance is $300.

Street Representative Report: Sweetwater – 1 home for sale and 2 empty; Dahlia Dr – Blight and illegal parking causing concern west of 25th Ave.; 26th Dr. – Swat team was at Aster & 26th Dr.; Aster – 1 house for sale; comment from a Halloween trick o’ treater, “…we love your neighborhood!” Charlotte reported 250 visits on Aster Halloween night. Windrose – Mary Huffman is recovering from surgery; Corrine Dr. – down to one empty house; Larkspur – where mail was witnessed being stolen; Charter Oak – Great Halloween display by Linda Townsend’s family; Bloomfield – one house in question; 25th Ave – How is Edwin Lopez?

New Business: Concern over barking dogs came up and the phone number to contact someone in city government regarding this issue is 602.262.6466. We invite all neighbors to visit www.nextdoor.com/coxmeadows and join the conversation. We encourage everyone to utilize the tools and resources we have as an organization. There are rakes, weedeaters, lawn mower, leaf blowers, shovels, gloves, safety glasses, paint sprayer, on loan to beautify our neighborhood.
